SASSA Increased The Amount of Grants in 2024 – (Official List)

South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) plays an indispensable role in providing millions of South Africans with financial support, with annual adjustments made to social grants to account for inflation and other economic factors. For 2024, SASSA announced increased grants across its grant portfolio.

Our SASSA increases 2024 were carefully designed to provide immediate relief while simultaneously planning for further adjustments later. Below is an outline of these increases for every type of grant:

SASSA Increase 2024

Over the next year, Old Age Pension will experience an overall increase of R100:

  • Starting April 1, 2024: tthe grant increased by R90 per recipient aged 60 – 74 per month; for those 75+ the increase is R200 monthly.
  • From October 1, 2024: An increase of R10 will bring monthly amounts for those aged 60-74 up to R2190 per month, while for those 75 years or over, it will rise to R2210 monthly.

Disability Grant will also increase by R100 over the year: 

  • As of April 1 2024, the grant increased by R90 per month, bringing it up to R2180 per month.
  • Starting October 1, 2024, another increase will bring the monthly total to R2190.

Like its Disability counterpart, the Care Dependency Grant will experience an overall increase of R100: 

  • On April 1 2024, R90 was added per month, increasing it to R2180 per month.
  • On October 1, 2024, an extra R10 increase will bring this total up to R2190 monthly.

The War Veterans Grant will experience an increase of R100:

  • On April 1 2024, the War Veterans Grant will see an increase of R90 per month; an amount equivalent to R2200 monthly has now been reached.
  • Effective October 1 2024: An R10 increase will bring monthly expenses up to R2210.

Starting April 1 2024, Foster Child Grant amounts have increased by R50 annually, reaching R1180 per month as of April 1, 2024.

On April 1, 2024, the Child Support Grant witnessed an increase of R20 per month, increasing it to its current amount of R530 per month. The ones that are receiving additional top-ups are now paying an aggregate monthly bill totaling R780.

The SRD grant was also raised to provide temporary financial aid for people in dire need. It now stands at R370.

  • From April 1, 2024, the grant was increased by R20 per month, bringing it up to R370 monthly.

On March 14 2024, the Minister of Social Development issued and officially gazetted an extension of the SRD grant until 2025, impacting over 9 million individuals who depend upon this support for survival.

Beneficiaries don’t need to take any special action to receive increased grant amounts. Adjustments have already automatically taken effect from April 2024. To prevent delays and disruptions in payment, beneficiaries should make sure their personal and banking details remain updated at SASSA.
